Unit 1: Scotland.

Scotland is one of four main regions in England.
Scotland occupies one third of the land area of Britain but has only got nine per cent of the population.
The majority of Scottish people live in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Scotland it's got its own parliament, a education system and different laws than Britain.
Scotland has also got its own traditions. For special occasions some Scottish men wear a kilt rather than trousers. The unusual instrument known as the bagpipes is a part of Scottish tradition. Sport is very important in Scotland. There are lots of golf courses in Highland Games.
But Scotland isn't just about tradition. Glasgow's entertainment centre is a fantastic piece of modern architecture.

There are lots of famous Scottish people. Charles Rennie Mackintosh is an example.
Lots of famous things come from Scotland too. For example a drink: Scotch whisky.
Most of Scotland's income is from tourism. Millions of visitors come each year. Lots of tourists also like going to Loch Ness. People say there's a monster there, and Scotland's a wild place, so... who knows...?
